John Perry

John PerryJohn began practicing yoga postures in junior high school as a means of physical fitness. Over time he began to experience a sense of joy and contentment that came from the practice and wanted to learn more of the philosophy of yoga. John has had several inspiring yoga instructors and been exposed to many styles of yoga. John completed a Kundalini yoga teachers training in 1994 and brings a lot of the breath work into his classes. John received a BS degree in occupational therapy and worked for over 25 years in the field of rehabilitation for physical disabilities and is a practicing Licensed Massage Therapist. John has been teaching yoga in Eugene for over 20 years and has been offering on-going, all levels, drop-in classes at Core Star since 2002. His current schedule is Monday-Wednesday-Friday, 9:00-10:15 AM.

Tyrone Angolia

We here at Benevolent Fist are absolutely dedicated to being better. We are mindful that martial arts are a meta map for the rest of our lives and the more we set/reach our martial goals the more we know we can set & reach all our life goals.

Sifu Tyrone Angolia began training in Praying Mantis Kung Fu in 1994 and was fortunate enough to train with his Sifu for the next ten years. In 2003 he became a successor of the Chen Zhen Yi lineage of 7 Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu. Following this achievement, Benevolent Fist was born and he began teaching at the Core Star Center. In 2007 Tyrone began training MMA and then started to compete the following year. Thoroughly enjoying competing in MMA matches naturally led him to training in Jiu Jitsu.

Having a passion for teaching martial arts, he became a BJJ instructor at Performance Martial Arts where he holds the rank of brown belt under Ben Baxter. Tyrone’s path to excellence is paved by helping his students increase their kinesthetic awareness, neuromuscular connection and overall muscular endurance through martial arts and conditioning.

Matt Shinkai Kane

Matt has studied Zen Yoga and meditation in Japan for the past 9 years and is certified to teach Zen through the Hakuin-Inzan line of the Rinzai tradition. He has taught in a variety of environments in Japan, England, and the United States. His classes focus on grounding, energy flow, and awareness.

Sloane Cameron

Sloane Cameron began her Taekwondo training in 1996, at the age of nine. She received her black belt in 1999, and currently holds the rank of 4th degree black belt. After completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon, she completed the Moo Do Instructor program. She is a current record holder in Female Power Breaking and competes on the world arena. Ms Cameron currently teaches at her new facility: Northwest Ninja Park. Tim Greathouse

Tim Greathouse began martial art training in 1989 while attending Purdue University. He earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do in 1993. After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Illinois, he participated in and successfully completed his Instructor’s Certification program.

Mr. Greathouse founded the Core Star Center in Eugene, OR in 1999 as a Tae Kwon Do academy. Since then, the Core Star Center has grown in its offerings and now includes other martial arts, yoga, and music and dance programs. Mr. Greathouse teaches both Adult and Children’s Tae Kwon Do classes as well as Hatha Yoga and an Adaptive Movement and Yoga class for those with special needs.

Mr. Greathouse currently hold a 7th Degree Blackbelt in Taekwondo and a 1st Degree Blackbelt in Hapkido.

Lada Korol

Lada is Russian-born and emigrated to the US in 1990, just prior to the collapse of the Soviet Union. She studied gymnastics through the age of 15. When she moved to Eugene in 1996 with her family, there wasn’t an adult gymnastics class in town so she found that yoga was the perfect evolution where she could learn and grow physically as well as spiritually. 20 years later, she’s still an avid student of different types of yoga and loves to lead yoga classes. She got her hatha yoga teacher diploma in 2014. Her style combines traditional yoga asanas with her playful spirit.

She currently teaches TGIF Yoga on Fridays at noon in the main room. All levels welcome! Sliding scale $8+
